Spring Football is Here in Keller

KYA JagurasYesterday, Keller Youth Assoc football held their grass drills for Spring Football.  Since Arvada / Denver did not offer Spring tackle football, this will be my first Spring tackle football season coaching.  I am looking forward to it.  I am coaching with Coach Z, as his offensive coordinator, for the KYA Bantam Jaquars.  This should be fun.

We are both like the Double Wing and Single Wing offenses and read all things football.  We saw some pretty good players in the grass drills yesterday, so it should be an interesting draft next week.  Since we are also the Select coaches in the Fall, we are drafting young players to play on our Select team, while many coaches for the Spring will draft older players.  Can we coach the young players to compete with the older teams.  We will see.  I think so.

The KYA Bantam Titans are the returning power house team with 7 returning players, the maximum number, for the Spring.  Beating the Titans will be one of our goals.

And of course, we want to play for fun, but winning is always funner!

  1. Thanks Coach Tim.

Ive run the Single Wing and Double Wing several years. I run the SW as my power formation and Double Wing Spin Variation as my Speed formation to the corners. This works very well. Pointers, be organized with a plan and play book. You get what you expect. So expect your players to learn the system and they will. If you think your players are too young to learn the system then they will be too young and not learn the system. Recruit a smart QB. The QB may not be fast or the best passer, but if he is smart you will have a good QB. I love smart QBs.

    Good luck this season!

  2. I have always wanted to run the SW or DW formation. I like the motion and mis-direction that comes with it and the blocking angles are good for a team with small offensive lineman.

    Thanks Coach

  3. Coach, Good Luck with the season… Youth coaches are the backbone of the greatest game in the world! I have read your blog a few times and I enjoy your insights. I was a coach at Texas Tech a few years ago and I was very impressed with the level of coaching in Texas.

  4. I am running the SW this year for the first time.I like what I see in it.Should I also run the DW with it or is running only the singlewing O.K.?

Also thanf for all the info. you have it helps in all kinds of ways.
