Advice for youth football parents / sports parents, Be Early not Late – coaching youth football

Advice for youth football parents

Some great advice for youth football parents and sports parents is to be 15 minutes early and not late to every event. Coaches hate it when your child is late. We understand every now and then work and traffic get in the way but usually a few families are always late. And just an FYI, everyone is talking about you and the fact you are always late. The team sees you.

Below is a little post I wrote up the other day, since if you do not communicate your expectations then you continue to get chaos. Yes, you need to coach up the parents too. We all need a little push now and then.

If you are early, you are on time, if you are on time, you are late…”

Many on our team are new to tackle football. Learning to be early should help your player through his football and or any sport years into college. Also …..
Fyi, I expect QBs, RBs, and Centers to always be early, especially on game day and or you’ve missed practice during the week. You should be keenly aware if you missed practice, you need extra work, since you’re considered a skill position. The team is counting on you. Plus it puts more pressure on the coaches and others players that are on time to scramble alternatives while we are waiting on the late players.

Also on time in the parking does not count. You must be dressed and ready on the field helmet & pads buckled to be considered on time. If you are late, please at least show up dressed and ready to go and jogging on to field not walking carrying pads and then ask coaches for help dressing you.
( Parents please ask your player to learn how to put on pads, buckle helmet and tie shoes at home. )

As your young men learn to be men, learning how to be early and on time and ready to go will serve them well in their college and career years, and throughout life. It did mine. Bosses love employees that are on time and take the initiative.

Plus we live in a large metro area, and being early is how to beat traffic and be on time.

Thank you for your support & understanding,
Coach Parker
