Single Wing Counter Play 36 WB Counter Play – Free Youth Plays
The free play today is the Single Wing Counter Play 36 WB Counter Play from the Unbalanced Single Wing Offense invented by Pop Warner in 1906. This Single Wing formation is sometimes called the Z formation, A formation, Carlisle Formation and just the Single Wing. The Unbalanced line is trying to address defenses at the time period that were overloading to the wide side of the field. You can find more on Single Wing formation on my SW Formation blog post.
Too funny, I just realized today’s Single Wing Counter play is just like the free play a few days ago the Double Wing Counter Play. I must love youth football misdirection plays. And, Yes I do! I was going through Single Wing books and playbooks and the UBSW Single Wing Counter Play by the WB kept coming up so I drew it up from an old playbook of mine. I thought it looked familiar as I was writing this post. I must be getting old like this UBSW offensive formation from 1906. LOL.
Single Wing Counter Play
The Single Wing Counter Play is very similar to the DW Counter since the SW and DW offenses were invented by Pop Warner. This play is a little tough for some youth football teams since you are pulling two lineman but I have done it pulling just one around. Ive also adjusted into an Even offensive line and called a TUFF tag which moves my two big OTs to playside either Even SW or UBSW. That works great too.
You will see this WB counter play from just about every youth football offense with a wingback. Pretty standard play in youth football since it is very effective for long gains on a over aggressive and over pursuing defense. Try it out? Do you run a similar play?

Just as an FYI, much of the base play and formation info I sell in my youth football playbooks can be obtained on my Website, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube sites. Enjoy the youth football coaching tips and plays!!! Let me know how I can help you become a better youth football coach. You can also find more of my free youth football plays that I posted on my Pinterest free football plays board. I tried to post all the plays diagrammed on CoachParker.org.
