1 Play Multiple Formations | Popular Youth Football Offensive Formations
The other day I decided to draw up 1 Play in Multiple Formations to do a little mental gymnastics with well known Youth Football Offensive Formations and diagrams to see how far I could go. And this is the 25+ plays from one play in 25+ popular football offensive formations.
I have always been a multiple formation coach both on offense and defense. All three of my playbooks have multiple formation concepts; Power Wing Beast Offense, Wildcat Multi Spread Offense and the 62 Multi 8 Youth Football Defense. In my opinion you need more than just one formation to get to the top consistently. Just as an FYI, the 62 Multi 8 Youth Football Defense digital PDF eBook is on sale for $13.39 through July 2020.
The one play I chose for the mental challenge was the off-tackle play. This is my favorite play and I love it from not only the Beast Offense but just about every other youth football offensive formation too. Below is an example out of the Off-Set I formation.
What is so funny to me is that I think the Single Wing formation (below) and the Off-Set I formation are cousins. The big difference is the QB under center, so almost all plays could be the same. I like this since if my Center cannot snap a consistent shotgun snap then I can move to the Off-Set I. Yes, I know I lose the extra blocker but I would rather not turn the ball over with bad snaps every other offensive series.
I drew up the plays with blocking just at the hole so you may see some of the plays with little or no backside blocking. I tried to keep the blocking by the running backs consistent, like the FB always has the DE / contain man. I also drew the plays up in an overloaded set for most of the plays against a shifted 5-3 defense. Many youth football defenses will not shift to the overloaded youth football offensive formations so that gets even better.
Overall my conclusion is that with minor tweaks you should be able to run multiple youth football offensive formations and if your RBs are experienced enough and smart enough, you could multiple your playbook by at least 3 or 4. Plus you do not need to add every play to the other package(s). Just some ideas and thoughts for you guys to think about.

I personally like how easy the various single wing formations can run the same play. I know many of the UBSW coaches are die hards about their beloved formation but look at this variety you have available below. We use a ton of the Beast, ND Wing and the Triple Wing below in the PWBO. I have also used the short punt which is a tightened up Double Wing in my opinion. Take a look at the video and you can start seeing all the similarities of the youth football offensive formations.
