We ran the 33 Stack last season with mixed results. This is a "disguised" 6-3 featuring 6 stack players that shoot A, B and C gaps using a Tap and Go blitz scheme.

We also use a few hybrid positions. Our "Dogs" are hybrid DE's/Corners. Our Corners are hybrid Corners/SS's and our Reaper is a hybrid Mike/FS. Our coverage is inverted cover 2.

This year, we are much better prepared to coach this defense and expect great things.

You'll love the GAM, btw.

We really struggled last year on defense. We moved from a Eagle 7 to a 6-2 variation and we did not have the same effectiveness as our blitzing Eagle. I have read some good things about the GAP AIR Mirror Defense by Reed, but I'm not sure yet. Hmmm, we lost all of our games due to defense. We scored no less than 24 points a game and averaged 40 points. I really need to find a good defense for 5th graders.

I've got to tell you, one of the best books on understanding defense, especially the front 8 is the Leo Hand book Radar Blocking. He outlines blocking assignments against 14 different defenses. It was a real eye opener to see all of the defenses and how they could be blocked or not. :)
